Abstract
The objective of this study was to obtain genetic marker information and association studies for multi-allele markers in the Gyr breed. Fourteen Brazilian Gyr sire families with 657 daughters were analyzed on chromosome 6. A chromosomewise significance threshold was used, because BTA6 (Bos Taurus autosome-6) is known to harbor quantitative trait loci (QTL) for several milk traits. The cows and the sires were genotyped for 27 microsatellite markers and were selected from bovine chromosome 6, according to the latest MARC map reported. The markers covered 130.78 cM; average interval length was about 4.9. Map distance between the 27 markers has been estimated with the program CRIMAP. In the map distances the order of markers achieved was consistent with onsensus map, and this is very important because, probably QTL and candidate genes in dairy cattle are preserved for Bos taurus and Bos indicus
