The educational flipchart as a participative communitarian methodology: the case of accidents related to the bite of animals that are potential transmitters of rabies

Abstract

Teaching techniques have been used since the beginning of education in the world of men. As a result, different educational methodologies have been designed so that human beings are able to internalize different types of information through their senses to be used in the future. The flipchart is one of such methodologies, which was implemented in this study to teach a specific community about general aspect of rabies, its transmission, possible domestic and wild animals, and how to act in the case of exposure to accidents involving rabies. In this sense, it was decided to give a talk about implementing the flipchart in the Municipality of Tena, Cundinamarca, Colombia, which was attended by the treasurer, staff from the Office of Agricultural and Environmental Development (Odama), representatives from the Community Action Board (JAC) and a number of basic education students. The corresponding evaluation was carried out at the end of the gathering and it was concluded that this kind of talks are effective for the community, as they learn about important matters related to public health.
