Abstract
This paper presents a reflection on the concept of contemporary architectural space, and essentially aims to compare the six proposals for the new millennium explained by Italian writer Italo Calvino with concepts used by architects Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, Richard Meier and Frank Gehry. The contemporary architectural space is closely related to the new artistic expressions and approaches communication as a concrete act. Communicating and expressing have become the backbone of the spatiality of architecture. This new concept of space is largely due to the major technological breakthroughs and the wide range of technical possibilities of construction and design, as well as to the use of new materials, which allows architects to dream more. In this context, the idea of comparing architecture with the concepts raised by Italo Calvino arises; the Italian writer indicates that the new millennium will bring about a different pace of life based on six concepts: lightness, exactitude, visibility, quickness, multiplicity and consistency, which are distinguished in contemporary architecture.
