Determining the effect of early weaning in beef cattle, on the weight gain in male and the age of conception in female

Abstract

This paper analyzes the performance of early weaned calves. The study was conducted at the Hacienda “La Esperanza” in Puerto Lopez (Meta). We evaluated thirteen males and ten females weaned early, compared to thirteen males and nine females traditionally weaned. We used a completely randomized design for the age of conception in females, whereas in the case of male weight was reached, the same taking into account the effect of time of gorges, through a design with unifactorial a covariate. It was found that the age of conception in females was unaffected by the weaning. In the case of the males, it was showed a statistically significant difference in body weight at weaning for the system, but to enter the gorges covariable time, it was no longer significant. It was concluded that early weaning and breastfeeding restricted feasible set in beef production systems in the tropics. Its application is recommended because it did not affect the age of conception in females or the weight of the males when one takes into account the time of baits
