Abstract
This article aims to examine the theoretical-epistemological assumptions underlying the constitution of social work as a discipline. The purpose is to show that despite its ambiguous origin, the heterogeneous definition of its “object,” and the combination of theoretical contributions from various other social sciences, it is possible to more specifically demarcate the disciplinary field of social work. Considering the above, the aim is to broaden and deepen the theoretical and epistemological aspects regarding social work, while providing reflections on the practice of social workers. The methodology essentially consisted of exploring literature sources, which then became the primary data of the research. Articulation and confrontation of different theoretical frameworks were required.
