Kant in a dialogue with Modernity: Propaedeutics to Immanuel Kant’s speculative reason

Abstract

In my experience as university professor I have felt the difficulties young students of Philosophy have in their initial approaches to Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason. Likewise is noteworthy students’ great deal of misunderstandings and prejudices about this classical philosopher. These are originated, mostly, due to confusion about philosophical theoretical contexts and ignorance on the range and validity of Kant’s work. This confusion and ignorance are consequence of the fact that most students know first the objections and present debates to Kant’s work, rather than a personal critical approximation to the author. Bearing this in mind I’ve considered important to write a paper with a propaedeutic intention that allows the student to understand Kant’s thought, and how his conceptual concerns are articulated in the philosophical context of modernity.
