Sheep Breeding in Colombia

Abstract

This article aims to assess the studies and research developed in Colombia about sheep breeding, and seeks to highlight the importance of this area in the country’s economy. Similarly, the main aspects of breeding are described. The paper begins with a brief compilation of the reproductive parameters used in Colombia, and then aspects of physiology, endocrinology, manipulation of oestrous cycle, as well as issues like artificial insemination are addressed. It ends with a review of all matters relating to the male sheep from puberty to the cryopreservation of semen. This document contains as much information as possible, and it is based on scientific articles, theses and information from government agencies.
