Abstract
This article establishes the approximation points between these two Colombian novels, La Vorágine and Satanás, starting from the approaches each one of them may have about the ideal of the illustration – i.e. the individual rational autonomy. The different ways the rational condition is assumed in these novels will be analyzed considering the context, the structure of their stories and the configuration of their characters. Also some considerations about fatality shall be reviewed, emphasizing the particular strategies each novel resolves its own posed problems.
