Abstract
This article present the general file considerations to take into account for file organization. Those were motivated the formulation of the research project in order to know the level of organization of the file classification system in surveillance and control organizations in Colombia. Later on and starting from a panoramic view over the foundations and Colombian file regulations, the classification system used in public entities and private institutions with a public is described. It also mentions the postulates proposed by international writers of treatises about document classification alternative systems. Based on those assumptions some questions are posed which invite archival community to think about the proposed topic. Finally, it includes different aspects for the research project development about the evaluation of the file classification system in surveillance and control organizations in Colombia. It is considered as an academic initiative of the Faculty of Information and Documentation Systems at Universidad de La Salle to know the functionality of the adopted classification system or the possibility to propose alternative classification systems to improve the processes of organization and recovery of public documents
