Abstract
This report makes a short review of the different strategies which have been used in recent years to eradicate brucellosis. The control and eradication strategies have been based on diagnosis, slaughter and vaccination depending on local situations and the possibility of intervention by local health agencies in each region. New vaccines, which allow distinction between vaccinated and infected animals, favour selective slaughter, that promotes better cooperation among farmers, which is completely necessary to achieve eradication. Latin American countries show differences in the level of control, very dependent on the three factors listed: farmer livestock aid, farmer´s active participation, and correct application of diagnosis and vaccination.
