Abstract
Concepts as school Habitat are generated from the development and the manifestation of the evolution of school space in history, its projection towards the outside and its link with the urban environment. Factors like the pedagogical, educative, socio-cultural and economic ones, among others, make of this small universe an unimaginable space for developing, studying and understanding, for the benefit of communities in any city. The historical development of school buildings in Bogotá, in the last 120 years, clearly reflects a growing context that relates the design of the school space, the school habitat, the benefits from the encounter between pedagogy and architecture, and the contributions made by architects immersed and interested in the problem. The implementation of new technologies and the dialogue between pedagogical schools and Architectural concepts are bastions that represent educational policies in accordance with the school or pedagogical trend of the times, with the blessing of the public administration. From the cloistered and enclosed buildings, to the transparent ones; from Lancastrians classrooms to open and free ones; everything holds the secrets of school Habitat, which have not been discovered yet. This article clearly shows that development and illustrates on the great responsibility architects have before school spaces, its spatial, functional and aesthetic design. In addition, it offers the grounds to establish conceptions of school Habitat.
