Abstract
In 1969, Ernesto Cardenal published Homenaje a los Indios Americanos. Twenty three years later –among the five-hundred-year anniversary of America’s discovery– Cardenal re-published this homage with additional poems in Los ovnis de Oro (1992). This article will attempt to show the poetic mechanisms that Cardenal used to reflect upon contemporary times with the aid of American Indigenous images and concepts.
