Is Management a Science?

Abstract

In order to find an answer to this question, this article recalls some theoretical positions for the definition of what we now call science. A number of epistemological positions supporting the rational principle and purpose of human knowledge are described, and the principles of scientific management are contextualized in the framework of experimental sciences in order to determine the true sense of the great theoretical contribution made by Taylor to administrative science. Finally, the reasons why management is a science, with an object of study that can be apprehended from both qualitative and quantitative approaches are exposed, as well as the objects of study of other social and human sciences
