Pedagogical Practices in the Training of Professionals in Archives at the University of Costa Rica

Abstract

The article discusses the current pedagogical practices in the training of archivists at the University of Costa Rica, which guide the new curriculum of undergraduate studies in archival studies implemented in 2014. The core idea behind the formation of future professionals is the integration between theory and practice. The questions that guided this reflection regarding theory-practice relationship were: what kind of teacher-student relationship is promoted? What is the most suitable methodology to achieve learning? What teaching strategies are favored? How assessment of learning is conceived? What learning sequences promote professional training? Recognition of the role of teachers and commitment to the new curriculum are the cornerstones of success in the training of professionals in archives
