Abstract
This article wants to comprehend the nature of academic writing, and why sometimes it fails. In order to do this, a lonerganian distinction between the common sense intelligence and the theoretical intelligence is used. We also use Lonergan’s ideas on the immanent dynamics of knowledge and its notion of authenticity. By using these Lonergan’s ideas, academic writing is conceived as a learning process and as a teaching process. Finally, based on this notion of academic writing, five popular fallacies about academic writing are refuted.
