Abstract
The origin of democracy is almost always associated to ancient Greece; however, anthropological studies argue that human populations from 5000-8000 years AC already had democracy in their everyday relationships. Therefore, this paper aims to review the origins of democracy by analyzing the matristic or solidary culture of human ancestors from the Danube area and establishing that democracy today is the longing for that matristic way of living and posing the current obstacles established by patriarchal culture for its consolidation.
