Abstract
This article describes the main aspects identified in the study of occupational characterization in public archives of Colombia, including those belonging to central administration entities at national level. It makes emphasis on the most relevant variables that generate the sector dynamics and they are the contribution to know its current situation and the educational needs of the sector in aspects such as technology, education, unions, among others and that are key aspects to define the competence profile of the staff working for these institutions and to the archive development of themselves
