Abstract
The present article is the product of a theoretical review of the doctoral thesis entitled Single Parent Families and their Relationship with Adolescent Children based on Their Socioeconomic Level and Gender. This is a qualitative thesis that has been carried out since 2011 in Medellin. After a dialogue with several authors, this text proposes a reflection on social changes and the different expressions that they have produced in families. The basic hypothesis is that no social or cultural phenomenon can occur or exist outside a historical context. In this case, the fate of each family differs according to the time, and therefore, there is a change in the socialization of the new generations. The article also presents a discussion related to the schemes that have dominated the concept of families which, although still taken into account in the analysis, is currently being questioned and there is a suggestion to build a local and emancipatory knowledge.
