Power Relations of the Founders of a Family Business in the Field of Global Economy

Abstract

With the purpose of looking at the power relations of the founders of a family business, we started from a historical process experienced during the scientific management of the time when company employers sought productivity through low wages paid to employees, the centralization of activities and the specialization of tasks. Market conditions change over time and productivity is replaced with competition between companies through scale economies, value chains, clusters and oligopoly markets in order to attract costumers; power relations are also affected by technology, market concentrations, strong currency wars to achieve control over exchange through Porter’s forces and the existing commercial techniques, which generates extreme consumerism in the world. Then, the meaning of power in the family business is explained, as well as the conflicts usually presented within and the types of profiles of its founders recognized in this issue. Finally, it is described how the participation of those involved is the factor that counteracts the power relations.
