Abstract
Bearing in mind the multiple demands that new graduates must face in addition to those traditionally posed by his/her field of expertise, a Public Accountant must identify, value and develop his/her political potential in order to understand his/her obligations regarding both State and society. Thus, accounting training plays a critical role in an education environment which must allow the development of an interdisciplinary perspective keeping into account that some demands are dealt with not only as technical-professional challenges, but also from the citizen-professional perspective, that is, from the point of view of someone who is an active participant in social developments. Thus, the ideas here proposed aim to explain developments in political participation, arising from awareness exercises done by Public Accounting students in close collaboration with a State Monitoring Agency. Their experiences and perspectives lead to the introduction of these topics.
