Abstract
Industrial waste water presents a complex problem that requires treatment as an absolute necessity. This article describes the water contaminants by industrial, animal, agricultural, domestic activity as well as terrorist activity. Contaminants are classified as inorganic and organic: pesticides, detergents, phenols, hydrocarbons, bi-phenols, poly-chlorides, smoke and biologic contaminants. The effects on Colombian water sources of these contaminants are described. We conclude by saying that we have to work at improvif}g environmental consciousness and that the state must move towards more demanding control, the development and implementation of cleaner technologies, an administrative model for the prevention of water pollution, as well as an improved water treatment
