Abstract
This paper approaches the urban shape as a way to signify the city, built from informality. Itis intended is to demistify the shaty town’s origin as an urban irregularity by searching its inhabitants legitimation dynamics in the territory within the very structure of its history. This is theoretically approached from the perspective of the atemporal instances that gave place to the city in history: the instance of mythical thought or speech, the instance of a foundational act and the instance of architecture as a sign. From this view, this paper approaches the construction process of one of the neighborhoods pioneer as an informal urban process during the 1950’s in Bogotá: Juan XXIII. This is an approach made from history, told by its inhabitants and that also accounts for of the logics and dynamics from which the inhabitant constructs the image of the city.
