Abstract
This paper is both part and the result of the theoretical referent of the current research on “Significant Practices of Social Work Professionals: The case of La Salle University’s alumni in Colombia”. This article has three parts: The first poses the importance of assuming professional intervention as the object of knowledge in order to find a better solution to social problems, and to contribute to the theoretical-methodological development of social work; the second part specifies the concept of practice as a basic input for understanding intervention as a situated experience, and the third part gives an account, supported by arguments, of the many characteristics that constitute professional intervention as a social practice, giving it meaning and specificity.
