This article is the result of reflecting on the paradigmatic assumptions that have been considered from social sciences: historical, positivism, interpretive and complexity materialism, emphasizing the underlying concepts and categories that have influenced the development of social work in terms of research and social intervention as spheres of activity of the discipline, and how they permeate the definition of an ethical-political position of social workers
