Retirement beyond Termination of Employment: A Case Study

Abstract

This article analyzes the transformations generated in the vital dynamics of men and women post termination of their employment. For this effect, the proposed methodology was founded in qualitative research, based on a comprehensive-interpretive paradigm and oriented towards the interpretation process through a phenomenological approach. The case study was selected as methodology, which allowed to understand hidden or maybe ignored meanings of this stage of the life cycle. For this effect, the past and present of each of the participants was studied, rescuing their stories through words, how they had built their lives and how they had addressed the new role assigned in society, understanding work and retirement as two moments of sociocultural production with a different meaning for each subject.
