Thinking, Trends and Ideologies – A Theoretical Model of Social Market Economy

Abstract

<p>The reflection and theoretical production of a thinkers’ team from Freiburg School were strongly influenced by several thinking ways and trends, which achieved a theoretical model structure for Social Market Economy that emerged in Germany after the crisis caused by World War II. There are two key points to take into account over time – firstly refers to a position revealing two relevant thought lines, a free market and a regulated market; secondly the classification is related to a social intervention trend. The Free Market line is composed by theories and ideologies created by Classical, Neoclassical, Institutional, and Neo-Institutional Schools. Furthermore the Regulated Market by economic thinking, such as Keynesian, Post Keynesian, Structural, and Neo- Structural models; and finally the Intervention Social context is related to the Christian, Scientific and Utopian movement´s ideas. The goal of this paper is analyzing the contribution of these thinking ways, trends and standpoints for building a model of Social Market Economy</p>
