Abstract
This article presents a contribution regarding the evaluation and qualification of the influence of harmoni cs in decreasi ng the quality power in commercial areas of Bogota City. The study has three different approaches: An inquiry to vendors and owners of commercial shops aimed to see the problems caused by harmonics in their shops and equipment; measurements in order to characterized harmonics and a comparison of their most relevant indicators with ·current regulations to control their emission; and, finally, a stage of modeling to see the problem in this situation (commercial areas). In general, it is seen that problems are not critical and that in some cases and under certain condit ions, the limits of regulat ions are been exceeded . Estimations, considered as product of modeling and simulation, are coherent with measurements
