Abstract
This article presents the preliminary results from the investigation that conceives the creation of a future model of underground space in Bogota - Colombia as a fundamental element to define an adequate urban system. The scientific processes of investigation are based on the historical method, and in particular on the chronology of the evolution of use of underground space through urban history of Bogotá, analysis of the causes of the level of development of the urban underground structures, analysis of current conditions of the existing urban underground structures by an ordered inventory and a specific classification of structures, comparison with the evolution processes of other cities of the world having a well known usage of underground space. With this analysis, a perfect exploitation model of underground space is generated during the growth of major cities. Finally, this article presents a proposal of usage of underground space as a solution to the problems of space and mobility and the tendencies in Bogotá to optimize its use
