Abstract
This paper aims to contribute to the history of engineering in Colombia within the framework of Colombia’s Bicentennial Independence Day’s Celebration. The chronicle begins with the dawn of humanity and the role of tools in solving different needs, desires and beliefs. The purpose is to highlight the way that the solution of transportation and communication problems has revolutionized teaching institutions, thus providing the country with scientific and technical knowledge. These institutions are now the driving force in the country’s economic development and social well-being. The article concludes with the fundamental importance in future development, but assuming the environmental and social sustainability challenges of our society
