Tensions between theory and reality: postures we assume workers and social workers

Abstract

In academia are questioning related on relations theory-reality-theory also wondered about the subject and involved in society, its relationship with the theory, professional practice and the various readings on the reality which operate. Since Social Work, and professionals involved in processes related to social reproduction of life and social situations that affect the specific conditions in which live the general population, and especially the most impoverished sectors of society (Yazbek, 2002-2005). In this order of questions, research is a field of professional Social Work has been taking more rigorous in recent years, most evident in Latin American countries that have levels of postgraduate training in case of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Mexico. The investigation is beginning to look with urgency, as a prime requirement for those ahead of undergraduate studies in Social Work, taking into account that knowledge of reality must be borne in theoretical, methodological and ethical, enabling it to the professionals and, exercise their role. As indicated Jose Pablo Netto, practitioners of Social Work carried out studies, research and produce knowledge that is part of the social sciences and humanities. As we approach the professional discussion of the foundations and contributions we make from our work. Addressing these issues is the interest of this writing. Firstly, we note some tensions, paradoxes and dilemmas, between theory and reality, as existing challenges in social work, then we talk about a reflection about who knows the reality from investigative processes, in this case, social workers, as subjects participants in the construction of scientific knowledge and finally a reflection on the profession of Social Work, composed of individuals who know and act in reality; understand the profession Social Work in the historical movement of society.
