Quine en el mundo del significado una mirada crítica de alston

Abstract

One of the main problems of semantic is the significance. From Plato, the philosophers will have this question: What makes an expression significant? In the philosophical tradition, we can find different answers to this question, for example, for Quine everything that was made on the linguistic significance has something we can call an “idealistic spot”, one that should be erase from his theory about the indeterminacy from the translation. Many contemporary philosophers share with Quince his objections about the linguistic significance. In this article we want to show an alternative proposal that Alston gives and his version from the pictoric theory of significance. Through his Theory, Alston wants in some matter to save the traditional discussion about significance from the Quine´s frontal attack. In his attempt Quine´s contributions are taken without total acceptation of his theory. To the readers consideration we give the possibility to choose if the traditional view from the theory of significance should be abandoned like Quine wants r we can find the intermediate paths like Alston proposes.
